Students of Mechanical Design Engineering Study Program, Diponegoro University Vocational School, who are members of the Archimedes Screw Turbine Team won third place in the Sobat Competition 2024 organized by PT. United Tractors Tbk. The team consisting of Verma Ardian, Fikri Adi Saputro, Sundhari Maharani, and Bagus Dwi Prasetyo, with the guidance of Sri Utami Handayani, S.T., M.T., brought an innovation entitled “Analysis of Archimedes Screw Turbine with Variations in Water Discharge and Turbine Installation Angle.”
This innovation aims to utilize renewable energy by using the Archimedes screw turbine. Through the analysis of variations in water discharge and installation angle, the Archimedes Screw Turbine Team of Mechanical Design Engineering presents a solution to optimize the use of renewable energy.
This competition consists of three stages of rigorous selection. In the first stage, there were 282 innovative works from various universities in Indonesia which were then selected into the top 15 to then advance to the second stage. In the second stage, namely writing ideas in the form of scientific articles, the selection was carried out into the top 5 in order to advance to the final round. In the final round, the selection was in the form of a presentation in front of a team of judges which was held on October 16-18, 2024 at UT School Jakarta. Support and direction from Mrs. Sri Utami Handayani, S.T., M.T., became the driving force for the team to perform optimally in the final round. The Archimedes Screw Turbine Team also had the opportunity to attend a 2-day expo to celebrate PT United Tractor’s Anniversary. The expo was held on October 17 and 18, 2024 at the PT United Tractor Head Office Ballroom. The team gained an extraordinary experience at the expo attended by all employees up to the board of directors and attended by various subsidiaries and partners such as PT Pama Persada, PT Turangga Resources, PT Komatsu Remanufaturing Asia, PT United Tractor Pandu Engineering (PATRIA), etc.
The achievement achieved by the Mechanical Design Engineering Team is not only a source of pride for the team members, but also inspires other students to continue to work and innovate in creating environmentally friendly and sustainable energy solutions in the field of renewable energy.
